The Vios History
First developed and introduced to the South East Asian, Taiwanese and Chinese markets in April 2003, the Vios is a four-door subcompact sedan whose first generation was popular with all manner of drivers. It was used everywhere from the racing track to in taxi ranks all over Indonesia – although it was refitted with less powerful equipment and given a new moniker for this task.
In Thailand, there was also the option of a ‘Turbo’ Vios, which sported a turbocharged 1.5 litre engine with an air-to-air intercooler and in the Philippines there were three different grades to choose from.
A second generation of Vios cars arrived in 2005, when they were essentially renamed as the Toyota Belta sedan. This generation is more concerned with driver and passenger comfort than the previous models, and the interior boasts more in the way on conveniences.
Vios of the Future
The second generation of Vios cars is sold in Australian, American and other western markets under the name of Toyota Yaris sedan, offering space, comfort and style in a larger vehicle.
